After a while, storage can turn out to be a problem in homes, you just don’t understand how the few things you packed in boxes when moving in multiplied, and now there is stuff ‘everywhere’ that you keep tripping over. You don’t have to break the bank or move to a new house just because you need more space for your things, there are some simple DIY ways you can create more storage space for yourself.
Install tension rods at right angles
If you have run out of closet space for your clothes or need somewhere different to hang your jackets because they keep getting in your way when you don’t need them, you can have old tension rods installed across right angled space such as this to create your personalised hanger.
Organise your bathroom essentials
If you have no space in your bathroom for a wall shelf or the one there is already filled with your beauty products, you could use a hanger and a peg on the shower rod to hold up some of those things. You could also attach an old chain to a string of baskets and attach them to a hook to hang on your shower rod as was done in the picture below..
Maximise the door of your cabinet
Kitchen is one of those places you quickly run out of space and you have bottles, and jars hanging everywhere. Installing wall hooks behind doors of cabinets can give you a space to hang your small tools. Screw magazine packs behind the doors of your cabinet for extra storage.
Use tension rods to divide your cabinets vertically
Installing old tension rods into that cabinet that just seems to have too much vertical space you don’t need can provide a space for you to hang your spray bottles and installing two tension rods horizontally parallel and putting a tray on it will immediately divide the space.
Waste bin baskets as wall shelves
You don’t have to spend so much money buying new shelves and cabinets when you can easily screw your waste bins and any other basket to the wall and use to store some things.
Those spice jars scattered on your kitchen tables can be reorganised by attaching a magnet to the lid of the jar and underneath a wall cabinet, so that you can attach them there to hang.
Magnets are useful for organising small things like makeup and hair accessories, find a surface to install magnetic strips and stick little strips of magnets to your things and they can hang there instead of just being jumbled up all over the place.
PVC pipes can be reused for storing some of those things that are over the place like wine bottles, shoes, and for wall decorations. You need a small saw to cut the PVC pipes into your desired sizes, decorate it if possible and install them in handy ways with a good adhesive.
Under the bed storage
If you have space under your bed, I think its time for you to get on all fours, and start to clean it up. With handy DIY solutions, you can turn that dingy space to a store for your equipment and clothes, using baskets and crates. Also for your pet’s bed. Attach tyres to old crates to make them easier to pull out when needed, all you need for this are the crates, screw, screwdriver and some tiny tyres you can get from old toys.
There is so much more you can do with old stuff rather than just throwing them away, you could make them serve your needs, so next time think twice before you throw away things or stack it up somewhere never to be seen or used again.
